Hugging Asians and Feeling Inundated

This is for Oakland residents, especially its black and Asian residents. The images presented here are a gesture to our shared humanity, our need to come closer before we are undone by taking sides

Sounds simple enough.  I wouldn't mind hugging a black man to start my mornings.

I have so much work to do, but I'm procrastinating... there is so much information on the web.  Arg.. This is what I just did:

-Tweet about being inundated with information
-Reply to facebook post about seeing "Scott Pilgrim" at midnight
-Follow Grindr Fail Tumblr and think about what to submit.

Indonesian Festival 2010

It was the longest Saturday of my life.  The night before all these guys crashed at 321 after Free Love clubbing.  We woke them all up at 8AM for dim sum, cuz that's how we do it.  We don't sleep in, we do shit even if we're hung over.  Can you spot the fiercest bitch walking out of Capital Seafood?  Haters gonna hate.

And then... INDONESIAN FESTIVAL in K-TOWN!

Why do I love festivals?
FOOD!  And learning about about people, like Jimmy!
Only in LA do you have these photo backdrops at festivals. Goodness.  Who's that FOB in the back wearing traditional Indonesian garb?

Mike from Season 1 of 321 was visiting from out of town! Roommate love.

Indonesians.. yummy

This is Jimmy's ethnic group.  One of "a lot" in Indonesia.

I believe this is a mating dance.  3 clowns compete to mate with the village princess.  GET IT.

Retreat to the park:
We found ourselves laying a park resting from the night before.  I felt like I was jet lagged.  ANNND Ern got stung by a bee.

Home:
Dinner was Salmon, Pizza and Rice at the table like a family.... good night good night.

Sweaty Sundays - Clattering Hooves

Dance class on Sundays is our Gay Church

We have to dress up, follow the instructions of our instructor and mimic those around use without really knowing what we're doing.

One of the moves was lift your leg like you're straddling a horse then gallop across the floor.
Loves. I was confident enough to record myself this time!

Stretching before class:

I'm really loving these high energy dance classes.  My back has been so sore afterward, but I feel a lot of euphoria jumping around and acting like I'm fierce during the floor routine.

The rest of the Silverlake gets the choreo:

Ern looking good:

And then us.... please see Jimmy bump into Erik.

We nasty.. and the gay chef on the right has this to say, "IRASSHAIMASEeeeeyyyYYYy!!!!":
You are an artist Ryan Heffington.

RENT - Hollywood Bowl

I didn't even realize that RENT was being performed at the Hollywood Bowl for only 3 days with such a high profile cast list. Got the cheapest tickets in the house and had a lovely evening squinting my eyes and trying to recognize faces on the "big screen."

Artists of my interest:
Neil Patrick Harris, director
Wayne Brady (Collins) - Every white person's favorite black guy
Vanessa Hudgens (Mimi)- High school musical sexter
Telly Leung (Angel) - Asian!
Nicole Scherzinger (Maureen) - Pussycat Doll

I was impressed with Vanessa though she couldn't hit the "AHHH OOO Tonight" notes, but her "Light my candle" was amazing. Wayne was perfect for the part, he is amazingly talented.  Nicole also blew me away with her solo performance.  I thought she was an original Broadway cast member!  She deserves to be the focus of the Pussycat Dolls.

And hello Telly.  I've developed a crush on this Asian American.  I'm glad to see more Asians Americans play roles that are not ethnic specific.  His performance was pure talent.  I hope he makes it big on the stage. Love love.

I'm itching to perform.  I remember the stuff I did in high school that involved singing and dancing.  I miss performing in college and being so nervous being watched by my friends, but really loving every second of it.  Something about performance that's really exciting.  But there's always that concern of not being good enough.  And performing for youtube, hoping to get hits, has been the resolution for those who love to display talent, but are too shy to put themselves on a stage.

Will you sing a duet with me?  "Forget regret... for live is yours to miss."

After watching the video, I am convinced that Nicole was perfectly cast. Breath taking.

Yuppies at a Burlesque

@The Edison in Downtown LA.

I felt like a Yuppy with other young urban professionals looking to pay 12+ for cocktails.  Big Willie's Burlesque was amazing and what I call, Tasteful Stripping.  It was some schmuck's birthday so he stood awkwardly as the dancers unbuttoned his shirt and brushed a feather boa around his body.

I had some lady friends with me who joined me in a little Cha Cha and Swing dancing.  After they left, my gay boys and I did the twist on the dance floor. I was happy to be with friends who didn't mind dancing on a floor that was fully lit.  But wish I had a girlfriend who would always be my dance partner.

Relax, loosen your tie, shake your hips, hold my hand.  Feel the live music... don't think about work.  But we were yuppies, work talk is all we know.  We vented about our co-workers, our promotions, our hours...

Michael was with me.  We stole friendly kisses and hand holds in a space designated to those of more conventional life styles, but come on.  Prop 8 overturned!  I like testing my space. I like making people look over - through dancing funny or kissing a handsome boy who just got off work, but still looks like an Asian Hugh Jackman.

A friend told me I smelled like "man" that night.  I took this as a compliment and hope that "man" translate to good... hard working.. desirable.

Though I definitely do not look like Isaiah Mustafa I hope I can swan dive to the best night of your life.

Let's Get Married

Proposition 8 has been ruled unconstitutional.

I would like to celebrate by hugging my boyfriend of 10 years and planning our safari themed wedding.  I would like to look at him and say, "i love you.  you are the one I'm going to marry. I can only imagine you in my life and without you here, I wouldn't know what to do."  ..and tear up a little bit while speaking in fragments.

This is a victory that I'm not ready for... a victory of equality. yes.  but a victory that has not changed how I live my life personally.  I wish I was older, I wish I was in a committed relationship, I wish I could appreciate this feeling wholeheartedly.

But, I'm just a 25 year old gay boy romping around LA who feels like he's too young to settle. So.. woohoo prop 8.  Here's a cupcake...

I hope this ruling still holds true when I'm in the appropriate life stage: in love, committed, happy, older.  For now, I need to gather my roommates and buy veils... we're going clubbing dressed as BRIDES!!!!  First round of drinks on me!

Swim Success - Day 3

6:30 AM Lap Swim:

500 Warm Up
100 Free kick
100 Breast kick
200 Fly kick
100 Free arms
100 Breast arms
100 Free sprint

1200 = 48 laps. Boo yeah

My body doesn't look much different for Swim success Day 1.  So I added a towel and a cocky grin.  Yay gratuitousness.

Just like the lane that I swim in, I feel a little shallow.

Here's me trying to be sexy, click to enlarge.  Mildly embarrassed.  More amused at myself:  There goes being modest.

As you can see, I have underarm bush again.  BTW P90X makes me vomit.  Swimming is my work out.

My goal is to be able to do a 50 butterfly beautifully like in high school.  The swim team would complement how artistic I looked cutting the water with my smooth body rolls.  Amazing butterfly by the end of August.  I think I can manage that.   Oh, sorry Jimmy.  Your room has the best lighting.  Heh heh, I'm like the best roommate.
