June Recap

I'm writing a June recap 6 months after it happened.  Sad face, but there were three fun events worth mentioning and remembering.

PRIDE 

I never really celebrated pride.  In the past, I would just go to SF and find the Asian corner and say hi to friends and party in the evening.  A lot of people participate in day drinking, but I never really thought to.  This year I just enjoyed a Filipino breakfast at Manila Sunset and decided to hit up the Barnsdell park.  We noticed large groups of women... surprise it's Dyke Day!  We joined in by trying out some double dutch and saying hi to our lovely hot lesbian friend Cindy.  In the evening we let loose and did a little booty shaking with this random shirtless guy... so.. Happy Pride.


Andrew BBQ

Andrew's family lives in the Larchmont area.  When they go out of town, Andrew offers their place for a BBQ.  What do we do during these BBQs?

Karaoke, Cards Against Humanity, Youtube and a R&B Piano Jam session

 I caught David posting a ridiculous Selfie on instagram so I decided to make fun of him.  Got Charles involved too!

HAIRSPRAY DANCE ALONG

Grand Park released a summer schedule.  I jumped on the Hairspray dancealong event which encouraged pinic-ers to learn the dance moves to do along with the movie that was being projected.

I made a facebook event and got really into it.  My friends humored me.

Looks like Charles is over it.  Everyone do the Tail Feather!!

It was a lovely LA Summer Evening.

I told my coworkers who live in Santa Monica about Grand Park and they responded in disgust you mean the one with all the bums?  Yes.. that's the one... now stay west of the 405 where you belong.  DTLA in mine.

R&BBQ

Thought it would be a great way to close the summer with a BBQ, but with a tribute to 90's / Early 2000's R&B music.  Welcome to the R&BBQ.  See what we did there?

I learned something about skewers: wet them so the don't burn and pack the food close together because exposed skewer will cause it to break.  Yes. I lacked this logic and told folks to space out the food and about half the sticks fell a part.

We had an assembly line going on.  Mushrooms for obnoxious.. i mean vegetarian guests.

Jimmy put together 7 hours of reminiscent music.  The day time kick back became a karaoke session.

We also had folks dress up to the best of their ability.  I wish I kept my Old Navy Tech vest and overalls. Ern won with his cargo pants and baggy polo.

Not sure what's going on here, but for a moment Ern and I stood against the wall with our arms crossed nodding our heads to the music imitating a time when we didn't have cellphones to look at in order to not look bored at a party... yeah you remember doing that.

Happy birthday Brian, here's a slice of cake I found in the fridge.. ... I mean, DESSERT!  :D

End of Summer BBQ

August 28:

Salami, tomato, basil and fresh mozzarella = refreshing potluck appetizer

David always ventures to the east side to kick it with us.  But this time, we made our way to his hood for a nice west side bbq.  I made the plate above, but...

I finished a bottle of Soju and was feeling the weather.

David (in white) is my love child with Michael (in forest green) because he is Vietnamese/Korean!!

Michael takes over the BBQ and the Soju/Margaritas takes over our bodies

Yes... we are doing back body rolls to Rude Boy... and yes I failed at the end by almost falling.

My Corn Drizzle

Vietnamese Corn Drizzle is my staple potluck dish to bring.

In Vietnamese, the drizzle is called "mo hanh" which means scallion oil. Tramie (thanks for the pic) gives a simple recipe, but she forgot one of the main ingredients: FISH SAUCE! Instead of salt, fish sauce is used for that extra kick! I was worried that my non-Vietnamese coworkers would not enjoy the flavors, but I merely masked that ingredient by saying it was "love" that I added in. Womp womp. They loved it! Check it out! One day I'll make it for you.




June 18 - Team mixer. I think what makes work fun is having that non-professional relationship with your coworkers. There has been so much reorganizing that a team BQQ was in order. The my new-ish director hosted an amazing BBQ at her place in Venice Beach. *Gasp* the west side. I must admit, it was a cute neighborhood with a great bike cruising community. I added exploring Abbot Kinney Blvd on my to-do list! Lots of cute shops and restaurants.

I also got to debut my newest giraffe shirt from the threadless sale. Unfortunately there's an apostrophe missing from "Lets Party." Which everyone decided to point out. Freakin A people. It's a giraffe with a beer helmet. Give me a break.
