Race LA

For those who skim Groupon or LivingSocial as a part of their daily routine probably stumbled upon a city race.  Perhaps?  Essentially a scavenger hunt set in specific location for a certain amount of money.  Is it worth it?  Yes!  Only with the deal though.  I would only pay $15 a person for this because you're given a piece of paper and rules.  And I learned that they recycle the clues!

 We decided to unify ourselves with a color!  Thankfully we were all available on the LAST day of the groupon deal.  Our city: Pasadena. RaceLA - here we go!  There were 50 groups!  And an intimidating veteran who did 4 races already!

We ran around solving clues, looking for hints on line and used our brains.  It was tricky!  It was fun!  People stopped to asked what we were doing.  I enjoyed watching Jlo and Charles argue.  We had to stay together, but we broke up the tasks.  We finished everything with only a few iffy answers.

We ran back and the staff was surprised, "that was fast!"

But soon we learned that getting the answer right was more valuable than beating the clock!  Questions included who many instruments in the windowsill or when was the first Library built.  Questions that made us learn more about the city and be observant of our surroundings.

13th place!  We cringed when we got about 3 questions wrong!  ARG!  We should have taken our time!   But it was great fun.  What they didn't have was photo challenges, which surprised me.  But anyone can act silly - actually finding information is difficult! Check that off the list!

Weekday Adventures

Ern stumble upon this hidden LA gem down the street from our house. Dinner House M -a jazz club with a sunken bar with a Japanese American 70's feel.  Stained glass on the ceilings, retro sofas and "M," the owner who is the short haired Japanese Jazz singer that owns the lounge.  We told her we lived down the street and in her Japanese accent she replied, "We've been open for 20 years... there's a gay night on Wednesdays."

I'm wondering what gave us away, but thanks for the 411 cool cat.  Hipsters poured into the lounge to enjoy the DJ spinning MIA tracks.  Very chill.  It was here that we engaged in Plum Wine consumption.

The day after I had some Tibetan food with Alysia and friends in Pasadena at Tibet Nepal House.  It was so-so, but most folks come during their lunch buffet.  Cheers to new experiences, but unfortunately this new experience disagreed with my lower intestines.  Darn you YAK meat!!!   Let's just say the Yak didn't stay too long in my body.

I was in much discomfort, but nothing a gloriously clean bathroom in Pasadena couldn't fix.  We found a bench and recreated a photo from high school (2003).  Well, almost.  We have 21 Choices Frozen Yogurt instead of newspapers and Diana and Sandy have fled California for Portland, Oregon; we wish you were with us.

Pasadena Chalk Festival

I asked Mario what there was to do in Pasadena on June 20 and he said there was the Annual Pasadena Chalk Festival where 179 sidewalk chalk murals were being crafted adjacent to Old Town. Excellent!

But first, a little Latin Jazz anyone? I really wish I had a dance partner.
