A Speakeasy Christmas

I attended a speakeasy party for Christmas.  The outfits were amazing.  Above are the ones entered for the contest.  Even Albert Eistein attended.  These flapper girls look amazing.  And check ou the detail on the newsboy - down to his socks.

I wore just my dress shirt, suspenders and pinstripe pants.  Not the best, but it's easy for guys.  Same dealio at the 1920's ERA Party.  I should really try harder, after all, I love dressing up.  I just need to figure WHERE to get the goods!

The event was held at the Ebell which hosts "musical performances and lectures by world leaders and top artists."  It was built in 1927 and was the perfect venue for the event.  Large backyard patio, multiple grand rooms for dancing, eating and of course... photobooth.

The gang.

Chilly Day Hot Pot

We learned from our past hotpot events to use two different outlet sources to avoid blowing the circuit  We were professional and duct tapped the extension cables to avoid an asian Final Destination fiasco.

My favorite part about the hot pot was that the vegetarians brought there own pot!  Everything was already chopped and ready to go!  My favorite type of vegetarian: prepared!  No wait, my real favorite vegetarian is the non-existant.  But this will suffice.

We had a bomb-ass sause station set up.  Everything from eggs, chinese bbq sauce, peanut sauce, ponzu, sesame oil - you name it.  And barley tea!

Every time it's someone's birthday I find something in the house, stick a candle in it and make everyone sing.  I found mochi ice cream!  Happy birthday Ben!

New faces!  Alysia has a man now who was totally digging the gay scene.  He described it as strange to be in a room full of dudes without any sort of alpha male energy.  No worries there!  Though watch out for the girls fighting for the crown for miss sass of 2012.

And Jimmy from Houston - texas gaysians.  That's another pocket.  Jimmy had a little culture shock being in a room full of diverse asians, he admited to usually seeing one ethnic group at a time. The fact that there were indonesians to koreans all there was alien.

Guest book signing

And Sam's room is the usual after food game room.

All of my face recognition programs are confused by these two:

No deaths, everyone full and no longer shivering from cold LA nights!  Dude, it almost hit 60 degrees at night!  ;)  Nothing like dipping your raw meat into a communal pot of boiling seasonings.

A Club Called Rhonda

Fun party photos from A Club Called Rhonda - great space, great music.

Start early, end early, cheap drinks, no cover that's our Motto gaysians YOLO -  every day every day every day every day.

This picture depicts how some of my friends feel about how fabulous I am:

Our Own Grand Park

Down the street from my house is the Grand Park, a 12-acre park located in the civic center in downtown LA.

This park has the potential to be as good as New York's Central Park or San Francisco's Union Square however, parks are plentiful in LA and there is no reason to struggle for parking just to lay out in the grass, but the appeal is the events that are scheduled there.

"It is designed to be pedestrian friendly and connects Bunker Hill to the civic center. The park [...] includes tree-shaded sidewalks, drought-tolerant plants, an interactive fountain plaza, performance lawns and courtyards, plenty of street lights, movable park furniture, and kiosks to encourage the walking and exploration of the area."

While visiting at night, I noticed how well lit and safe the park felt, but because it's still new the park was vacant.  Jimmy and I had the opportunity to attend it's grand opening on a lazy evening.

There were food trucks (of course), water dancers in the fountain, live Cuban Jazz and fireworks.

What was really cool was the Vertical dance performance by Bandaloop.  These dancers were suspended from climbing ropes attached to City Halls’ exterior.  WHOA.  They were floating.

Election Day
We came back in November for election day!  I voted and I wanted to see the results!

We were on TV for a couple of seconds along with hundreds of other Angelinos!  The energy here was amazing.  I've never felt to patriotic in my entire life.

They had a photobooth - the guy asked everyone portray how they feel about the election.  We did a model runway walk.  Everyone had a good laugh with us.

Hairchive - Abrupt

Looking for a new barber.  Thought I was happy with the current one I have, but realized that he didn't properly fade the right side.

This is "The Abrupt"

But it looks sort of cool on the left side.  Starting a collection of hair-inspirations on pinterest:

Thanksgiving - Gangnam Style

My dad is obsessed with Psy's Gangnam style.  When I visited on Thanksgiving I found my dad trotting through the house doing the dance.  He got all of us to doing it.

While visiting my grandma's grave, he got Mom to do it too with incents in her hand.

Aside from that Thanksgiving was nothing far from the usual.  We visited Grandma which involves cleaning her tombstone, placing incents all around, prayer and burning things for her to use in the afterlife.  Paper money is the usual, but this year we bought paper fabric to burn.  We wrote her name on all the sheets so that they would get properly delivered to her spirit.  I learned that this is a huge industry - people are burning paper laptops and paper cars to send to their late loved ones.

My auntie always hosts and provides a huge turkey.  All American feast is served.

And we always take our cousin photos... this year in the style of Gangnam.

 AYYYY Sexy lady!
