Every Sunday in Hollywood, Jet Rag has dollar Sundays where they throw piles of thrift clothes in their parking lot and hipsters/trendsetters/Mexicans dig for clothing for a dollar each.
A yelp reviewer said and added the following tips:
"At 10:30 the plastic wrapped piles of clothes are released and the fight begins. There was screaming. There was kicking. There were hipsters fighting over pastels and ironic tee shirts."
-Wear running shoes
-Have a full breakfast
-Don't be intimidated by hipsters
-Bring a power bar
-Be prepared to fight
They fight dirty out here. Be ready to scrap.
I thought it was no big deal when I arrived. It was like casual thrift digging. I was actually getting a little bored because I couldn't find anything. I was about ready to go, but the workers began pulling vaccum sealed clothes from a truck.
People began to surround the bags. With each snip of the metal bands that held the plastic bag, the crowd got more and more excited. The snips made a popping sound and folks were pointing at articles they were already eyin. I pushed my way to the front. I was excited to see how this would pan out.
ONE.. TWO... GO!!!
People DOVE into the stacks. This Mexican lady sat on a pile and told people to back away because it was hers. There were arms and legs everywhere. Everyone just grabbing what they can!! I was in the middle of this and just grabbed patterns into my arms, NEON, PLAID, VEST, STRIPES!! I didn't know if I was grabbing a dress or a shirt or pants, but I held on to the materials tightly until I could sort through it after.
This dude grabbed one of the bags and pulled it around the corners for his own private selection.
On the sides were piles that have already been sorted through. Things we found there were stained or just plain gross. The left overs were no good compared to the fresh piles in the back.
I ended up with 5 articles - mainly lumberjack pieces, a snow jacket, an oversized hip/hop jacket for 5 dollars total. I was upset I didn't record the event, but I was way too into it. Luckily another dude posted something on youtube. For your viewing pleasure:
Into addition to cheap old clothes we found him:
We were guessing he was a designer of some sort because of the women fabrics he picked up. What a cutie.
MY FINDINGS! Remember, everything was a dollar! Click link for bigger.

Unfortunately Sam and Jimmy were too tired and starving to really fight for clothes so we went to Larchmont Bungalow for some Eggs Benedict.
I need to learn how to poach an egg and make hollandaise sauce.

as ridiculous as the lumberjack staging is with the hose, i have to admit your expression and lighting makes it look more like a model shoot.
